Challenge topic: You are walking down the sidewalk and see something on the pavement. What is it and what does it mean to you?

[Timeline: 1986 - ages five and eight]
“Find a penny, pick it up, and all day long, you’ll have good luck!”
Snagging of penny and wiping down with handkerchief commences.
“Maggie, knock it off, will ya? You don’t know where that penny has been.”
Lip quibble.
“But don’t you see, we’ll have good luck all day!”
Eye roll as he places Sunday school shoe dangerously close to sidewalk crack.
“And if I step on this crack?”
Thwap.
“Michael Jacob-Francis, don’t you dare…and give me back my penny!”
“Oh, come on Maggie, you don’t really believe that nonsense, do ya? Father Martin says it is a sin to play with all that superstition. You don’t want to go to Hell, do ya?”
Much pouting and near to tears. Would one really believe his sister was the older one here.
“Fine, but don’t tell mom you are picking up dirty pennies from the ground.”
He stifled the urge to roll his eyes again, as Maggie actually kissed the penny and stuffed it into her pocket.
Whatever was he going to do with her?
